Journey to 1,000 metres above sea level into the world's largest sub-tropical rainforest. At O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, your guide shares the property's remarkable history, including the story of the Stinson plane crash, before you take in sweeping views from the treetop walk, 16 metres above ground across 9 suspension bridges. Back on solid ground, grab your camera for a hand-feeding encounter with wild King Parrots and Crimson Rosellas, then unwind at O'Reilly's own Canungra Valley Vineyard, set beside a mountain stream, with a glass of sparkling wine and a visit with the resident alpacas.

• Bring comfortable walking shoes, a jacket, hat and water bottle, the rainforest walk follows clearly marked paths but does require a low-to-moderate fitness level


• Infant/child car seats available on request for younger family members on Southern Cross Tours
